Lung Cancer Awareness Month
Barney Mason #2
20 for 22. The other two got rained out.
Barney Mason raced out of Kite, Georgia, in the A Class Sportsman division, wheeling the #2 Wrightsville Auto Service Chevy built by Jack Helms, Billy Helms and Spud Price. He won race after race at Swainsboro, on 441 and at tracks across the area, held a NASCAR license, and came home with more trophies than the shelf could hold.
He loved to tell about the season he won 20 of 22 races. The two he didn't win? Rained out.
Barney was family to us. He died of lung cancer on April 28, 2012, at 71. This November, for Lung Cancer Awareness Month, we made a set of designs in his honor.
